Known today as the home of luxury British menswear, Hardy Amies earnt his stripes designing womenswear. Best renowned for his appointment in 1955 to HRH Queen Elizabeth II as Royal Dressmaker, Aimes created pieces for many public figures and the quality of his work is undeniably reflected in this little black dress. Suitably show-stealing and perfect for a high-glamour event, the bodice and sleeves are tailored from thick black lace which allows the skin to peep through. Further detailed with floral embroidery and tonal sequins, it comes alive as it catches the light. The mid-calf length skirt is tailored from black silk, two soft pleats falling from under the wide, glossy satin bow at the waist. Double-lined with both black crepe and satin, it fastens with a hidden tonal zip at the rear along with a single hook-and-eye clasp.
This 1980s couture gown is a collectable piece of Hardy Amies tailoring and is in excellent vintage condition. We noted a tiny pull on the silk skirt but this is not noticeable when worn. Very fresh looking and no evidence of alterations; perfect for your next cocktail party! A best fit for a UK 6-8 or US 2-4.
