Original to c.1905, this Edwardian era ring is set to centre with a cushion shape old-mine cut diamond with an approximate weight of 0.35ct. Beautifully balanced and thoughtfully proportioned, it embodies everything a classic solitaire should be - refined, timeless and effortlessly wearable.
The old-mine cut is one of the earliest diamond cuts. Sourced from the historic mines of India or Brazil (the world’s first known diamond deposits) these stones possess a character impossible to replicate today. Their softly rounded cushion outline, born from hand-cutting rather than modern laser machines, gives them a romantic glow and gentle fire far removed from the sharper brilliance of modern-cut diamonds.
The diamond is elegantly claw-set in an open-back setting in platinum, a stronger metal than gold which had the advantage of complimenting the bright white glow of the diamond it holds. The gallery is intricately pierced in a linear motif and the shoulders are solid, lightly raised and taper gently to a solid 18ct yellow gold band.
Excellent: all stones are secure and well set, with no damage to the mount. Professionally polished and carefully inspected by our workshop, ready to wear and enjoy.
Unless stated otherwise, gem weights and specifications are estimated (assessed in mount).
