Description:
A truly masterful documentary! Pierre Baroux's moving road movie, which documents his encounters with legendary musicians and the footage he shot of them in Rio in 1969, is now being released in an urgent memorial edition. In this film, the young Pierre explores the depths of Brazilian music through a series of encounters with legendary musicians in Rio, with the help of Baden-Powell. The cast includes Pisinguinha, João da Baiana, Paulinho da Viola, Maria Betânia, and others, all artists so valuable that it would be unthinkable today. Director Pierre Baroux also adds footage of various subsequent encounters with Brazilian music in 1996, 1998, and 2003. The film includes a chance encounter with Baden's son Philippe, a meeting with Walther Salles (director of "Central Station" and "Motorcycle Diaries") at a favela in Rio with the artist Adão, who is like an extract of Afro-Brazilian music, and a reunion scene with Adão two years later, as well as a new talent, Sarava, who sings Adão's songs. Sarava's new talent, Bia, who sings Adan's songs....A tribute to the beautiful Brazilian music that connects the past and present like a circle ! The rare performance of Pisinginha, Paulinho da Viola teaching Pierre the essence of samba in a bar while singing, Adão in a vivid favela in Rio, and "Samba Sarava" performed by Pierre & Baden. A timeless story, and a heart-warming scene. Partially subtitled in Japanese.
