Description:
Here comes a documentary film produced to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the birth of Yury Grigorovich (1927-), a choreographer born in Leningrad, Russia. Although born into an ordinary family, Grigorovich was inspired to pursue a career in ballet by his uncle, a dancer of such renown that he joined the Ballets Russes. While working as a soloist, he began choreographing early on and became ballet master of the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow for 35 years from 1964 to 1995, becoming artistic director in 1988." He established the "Golden Age of the Bolshoi Ballet. Grigorovich's most famous choreographies include Prokofiev's "Stone Flower" and Khachaturian's "Spartacus. The documentary film by Denis Svegilev is a spectacular retracing of the history of Russian ballet, interspersed with interviews with Grigorovich and his fellow dancers and actual stage footage. The shocking images that reveal complex human relationships, including the political background of the Soviet Union, are a must-see for ballet lovers.
