Set on a strong 18ct gold band, this superb antique ring features a central bright green peridot sandwiched between four old cut diamonds, with two amethysts at each end.   All the gems are securly set and catch the light beautifully.   

This little piece of history was once hallmarked for 18ct Gold but it has been rubbed.  I can just about make out a markers mark of: A & P.  Given the design and colours used (suffragette colours were known as purple; amethyst, green; peridot and white; pearls  or diamonds), I would date this ring right back to the late 1910s.   

This ring is currently a UK size Q (US 8), but it could easily be re-sized up or down. It weighs 2.74g, and it's face measures 7mm at its widest point.  There looks to have been a shank repair at one point in the ring's life, possibly due to a larger re-size.

Suffragette jewellery (mainly rings and pendants) were worn during the Edwardian era to show support for the women’s suffragette movement. Some people believe that the colours spelt out a secret message; Give Women Votes! (Green for ‘Give’, White for ‘Women’ and Violet for ‘Votes’.)
