I've been finding myself attracted of late to objects that are all about form and materiality, and which beg to be arranged in relationship to other objects that are all about the same; this is a prime example--a bit of a mystery, at least to me, but a beautiful and satisfying thing. Hand-carved of pine, which has a acquired a wonderful warm dry patina, it is weighted at the bottom, so definitely not a masher, but rather I think either a very old carnival knock down pin (with the weights making it a bit resistant to knocking down) or perhaps one made for juggling. Around the base are four evenly spaced old iron nails, and there are more around the top, including one that seems likely placed in response to a split. Wonderfully irregular all the way around. I personally like it a lot next to the fire bottle I just listed.
12 1/2" t x 3 18" widest diameter; 2 3/4" across at base. Sound and stable and beautifully aged.
