Auguste Raynaud was the Mayor of Nice from 1871-1878. Restaurant Raynaud, named after the local politician, was located on the Quai des Etats-Unis, the main boulevard that runs along the famous beach-front in Nice. From this restaurant’s enviable site, one could observe the Mediterranean Sea and take in the soft waft of an ocean driven breeze. Restaurant Raynaud specialized in seafood dishes that we surmise were unusually fresh due to the probability that the sea fare was provided by local fishermen. The delightful image of an elegantly dressed and well-fed gentleman that graces the menu’s cover suggests that an elite clientele would be assured of a first class meal. A couple of glasses of wine to go with a whole lobster...count us in! The menu lists prices in hundreds of francs which means it is pre-1960.
