Their expertise and quick reactions can mean the difference between a ship surviving or being hit by an enemy weapon.

Combat Systems Excellence

Fire Controlmen must master radar theory, weapons systems operation, computer systems, fire control algorithms, and the complex integration of sensors and weapons. They operate systems like the Aegis Combat System, which can track hundreds of targets simultaneously and engage multiple threats. During general quarters (battle stations), FC personnel man combat information centers and weapons control stations, operating the systems that detect and engage threats. Their technical expertise and tactical knowledge are critical to mission success and ship survivability.

Fire Controlmen work on surface ships including aircraft carriers, cruisers, destroyers, and littoral combat ships, operating some of the most advanced weapons systems in the world.
