What's the difference between polarized and regular sunglasses?

Regular sunglasses simply darken all light equally. Polarized lenses contain a chemical film that blocks horizontally-oriented light waves — the kind that creates glare bouncing off water, wet roads, snow, and car hoods. The result: you see through surface reflections while maintaining true color perception. For driving, fishing, or any activity near water, polarized is non-negotiable.

Do spring-loaded hinges actually matter?

Yes. Standard static hinges have a fixed maximum opening angle. If your head is wider than the frame, the temples dig in. If narrower, they gap. Spring hinges self-adjust within a 15-20° range, maintaining consistent, comfortable pressure. They also dramatically reduce the risk of frame breakage when you (inevitably) sit on them or toss them in a bag.

Are these suitable for prescription lens replacement?

The frames can accommodate prescription lenses, but you'll need an optician to cut and fit them. The 58mm lens width and 16mm bridge are standard measurements that most optical labs can work with. We recommend keeping the original polarized lenses as a backup pair for driving and outdoor use.

How does the scratch-resistant coating compare to glass lenses?

Glass (mineral) lenses are naturally harder but heavier and shatter-prone. The SiO₂ coating on these TAC lenses achieves 9H pencil hardness — equivalent to sapphire crystal watch faces. It won't survive a direct key scratch, but it handles the microfiber-cloth-and-glove-compartment abuse that kills uncoated plastic lenses within a season.
