Description:

Purcell, one of the greatest English composers of the 17th century, left a wide variety of works, including liturgical music for state churches and ceremonial music for the royal family. This recording includes music performed at the birth and funeral ceremonies of Queen Mary. This is one of Gardiner's earliest recordings, performed on modern instruments before the formation of the English Baroque Soloists on period instruments.
